Script to use Google Custom Search

I’ve just wrote a script which performs a ‘search query’ using “Google’s Custom Search” and uploaded it to GitHub.

I’ve found it useful to perform quick authenticated Google searches from the command-line…

There is room for improvement, if you can see how then let me know. Your also welcome to re-write it into any language if you don’t like using bash. 🙂

This performs a search for “hotels asia” excluding china from the results, and returns 5 pages, so it returns 50 URL’s.

gcs.sh "hotels asia -china" 5

You can find the code available here -> https://github.com/dazdaz/gcs

Don’t forget to add your “Developer API key” and CSE into the script.

Let me know if you find this useful.
